Bear with me for a second, please. Roger Bellemare just got appointed as a part-time member of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board. So I went looking for the other members of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board. Wasn't able to find it easily, but then figured I'd check into that other fine organization that M. Bellemare is not only a member of, but a member of the board as well. The Art Dealers Association of Canada, where they have a grand total of thirteen (13) members in Quebec (don't get me started on who is missing, and it has nothing to do with this here gallery. more with this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and there are lots of others just as good not included as well.) However, what struck me was that on the right hand side of the ADAC/Quebec Page, it states 'ADAC works closely with the following organizations: AGAC: L'Association des Galeries d'art Contemporain, and CINOA: La Confédération Internationale des Négociants en Oeuvres d’Art.' Only there are a bunch of problems, a) ADAC's link to CINOA is broken, so much for ADAC working closely with CINOA. b) On CINOA's website they proudly state that they are affiliated with '28 Art and Antique Associations from 19 countries.' Here now is the list of 19 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the USA. Notice how the letters C-A-N-A-D-A do not appear anywhere on that list. So much for CINOA working closely with ADAC. And c) Why would anyone in their right mind want to advertise that they work closely with AGAC, is beyond me.
So I am left wondering with such top-notch and professional organizations representing the Art Galleries in Canada, is it any wonder that Canadian Art is but a pimple on the right butt cheek of the International Art World? C'mon guys, can you get your act together, please?
